Early Intervention Programme

The Autism Intervention Trust have partnered with Victoria University of Wellington to develop and evaluate early intervention therapy programmes for children with autism five years and under.

The therapy uses an evidenced-based intervention called The Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). The ESDM shows huge promise in the support of children with autism. Named as one of Time Magazine’s “top ten medical breakthroughs of 2012”, ESDM is specifically developed for very young children with autism. It is a play-based intervention that combines behavioural and developmental principles into an integrated approach. ESDM aims to reduce the symptoms of autism and targets all developmental areas. The ESDM “seeks to empower children with ASD to become active participants in the world, initiating interactions with other people.”

We will be taking enrolments for the early intervention therapy programme from early 2018. Please be aware that spaces are limited in the first year of the programme.

In an effort to improve outcomes for children with autism and their families, the team at Victoria University will also be conducting research to evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy.

We would like to say a special thanks to the IHC Foundation for their contribution to funding this programme
